Custom development / Capabilities

What we build

We develop select applications, information platforms, and websites where a standard approach does not fit the work.

The approach

Start with the work the technology must support.

Our products and selected client work share a practical foundation: understand the subject, decide what information matters, and give it a clear, useful form.

That approach can apply to a new product, an existing digital tool, or a public-facing website.

Areas of practice

Focused capabilities

These areas reflect work YardLabs has developed or is actively developing.

01

Purpose-built applications

Software organized around specific tasks and users, rather than a general-purpose feature list. WildIndex is one example.

02

Information-rich platforms

Digital tools that bring records, context, and decisions into a more usable structure. Lasting Acre is being developed in this area.

03

Specialized websites

Websites with a clear content structure and visual identity suited to the subject. See the public McLeod Ranch project.

04

Private digital experiences

Selected experiences for family properties and organizations with particular audiences or information needs. Scope and access are discussed case by case.

Working together

A practical first step

01 / Describe

Tell us the goal, intended users, existing materials, and any timing you have in mind.

02 / Discuss

We talk through the problem, constraints, and whether our experience is a fit.

03 / Define

If there is a fit, we agree on a useful scope, schedule, and terms before project work begins.

Common questions

Before a project begins

These answers are a starting point. A conversation about your specific project is the best next step.

What kinds of projects are a fit for YardLabs?

We build focused software, information-rich digital tools, and distinctive websites. Our own products and the McLeod Ranch website show the range. Tell us what the project needs to accomplish and we can discuss whether our experience fits.

Can you work with an existing application or website?

Yes. We can review what is already in place, identify what should be kept, and discuss the most useful next step. A new build is not assumed simply because a project has changed direction.

How are scope, timing, and cost determined?

We start with the intended users, the work the product must support, existing materials, and practical constraints. That gives us a basis for a proposed scope, schedule, and estimate. Contact us with a short outline so we can discuss your particular project.

Does an initial conversation commit us to a project?

No. The first conversation is a chance to understand the work and decide whether there is a fit. We agree on the scope and terms before paid project work begins.

What should I include in my first message?

A brief description of the goal, intended audience, what exists today, and any timing constraints is enough. You can hold back sensitive details until we have agreed on how to handle them.

How does YardLabs use AI?

AI can assist with selected research, prototyping, and development tasks, but our work is reviewed and tested by people. We agree with you before using client information in an AI service, and we do not supply confidential material to third-party AI tools without permission. If AI is part of the product itself, we discuss its purpose and safeguards with you first.

How is private project information protected?

We treat client plans, data, credentials, and unpublished work as confidential. We request only the access needed for an agreed scope and discuss handling and sharing requirements before sensitive material is exchanged. Please raise any specific privacy requirements early.

Will you sign a nondisclosure agreement?

Yes. We are willing to review and sign a reasonable NDA when a project requires one, including before detailed confidential discussions. Mention it when you get in touch.

Can a project include mobile and web?

It can. WildIndex is available on iOS and Android, and our work also includes websites and digital platforms. The right combination depends on the people using the product and the jobs it needs to do.

Considering a project?

Tell us what it needs to do.

A short note is enough to begin. We can discuss confidential details after agreeing on the right protections.
